It all started innocently enough. I like bicycles and my spouse likes bicycles. Then we had kids and they got bikes. Then someone wanted a road bike, then a commuter bike, and hey, gravel bikes look like fun! Soon seven bikes in our four-person household seemed like an incredible act of minimalist restraint. Space was already at a premium and getting a bike in and out of our storage room was becoming a dreaded obstacle course.

Then our now-teenage sons decided that they needed a weightlifting area to “get the gains”. I’ve already renovated most of this house and had no desire to start over in a bigger house, so a much more efficient bicycle storage system was needed to free up space.

I researched available bike storage systems, but I didn’t find anything that did what I wanted. We needed something that could accommodate bikes of different sizes and types in a small footprint and that would provide easy access to each bike. Most importantly, I didn’t want pedals or other parts scratching another bike’s paint or suspension components.

So, I thought: “No problem, I like designing things and I’m a handy guy. I’ll probably even save money building my own”. (LOL!!). 160 hours of work later the Cycle Slide Rack was born.
